The Bureau Book Bunch was a book club founded by and made for employees of the Federal Bureau of Control.
Background[]
The club was run by Penny Bartwell and was usually held at the corner table of the Bureau staff cafeteria once every week. The last book read by the club before the Hiss invasion which occurred on October 29, 2019, was "Unless You" by J. D. Brooks, and each club member was asked to write a review of the book to foster discussion during their meeting.[1] Interestingly, the book appeared to have paranatural properties, as its genre and contents were completely different for each member of the club. To Ranger Captain Lopez, it was a young adult dystopian-setting romance.[2] To Phillip Philson, it was an unconventional "weird" horror story.[3] Finally, to L. Samson, it was a science fiction space opera.[4]
As of the Hiss invasion, the status of the club is unclear, as at least two of its members have died, with one more disappearing, presumed dead. Notably, their fates line up with the fates of characters they described reading in "Unless You", indicating that they may have been affected by the book's potential paranatural properties.
