As the Bureau’s headquarters faces a deadly and prolonged siege by otherworldly forces, only Firebreak—its most adaptable response unit—has the skills and courage to restore order.

FBC: Firebreak is an upcoming first-person co-op shooter developed and published by Remedy Entertainment. It is set to be released in 2025.

Synopsis[]

FBC: Firebreak is a cooperative first-person shooter set within a mysterious federal agency under assault by otherworldly forces. As a years-long siege on the agency’s headquarters reaches its boiling point, only Firebreak— the Bureau’s most versatile unit—has the gear and the guts to plunge into the building’s strangest crises, restore order, and blast their way back from the brink.

— Official description

FBC: Firebreak is set in the Oldest House several years after the events of Control. The players take control of three volunteer members of Firebreak, the Federal Bureau of Control's newest and "most adaptable response unit," as the Bureau continues to do battle with the Hiss amidst the ongoing Hiss invasion, which has reached a "boiling point." Firebreak members are sent into high-danger areas to act as a figurative firebreak -- to stand between the danger and the rest of the FBC. Its members are given access to "crisis kits," which seem to include non-standard weapons. They are even allowed to use paranatural augments, experimental technology which seems to involve the weaponization of paranatural objects.[1]

Currently, few other details are known about the game's story. The game's official website has a mailing list sign-up in the form of a confidential file which includes two redacted strings; if highlighted, the first string can be seen to read "Director Faden," suggesting she may have a role in the story. The second string can similarly be revealed to be "The Oldest House," where the game is set.

Project Condor first concept

First concept/promo art

FBC: Firebreak was first known as Project Condor or Codename Condor. As Project Condor, the game was announced by Remedy Entertainment on June 29, 2021, after it signed a co-publishing and developing agreement with 505 Games, and it is the first multiplayer project ever developed by Remedy. In the announcement, Condor was said to be a new entry intended to expand the world of Control. The announcement also included the first piece of key promotional/concept art for the game, featuring what appear to be four FBC agents sitting in a waiting area.[2]

As of February 2023, Remedy CEO Tero Virtela stated that the company was "patiently progressing" with the development of Condor and that it remained in a proof-of-concept stage.[3] By August 2024, it was announced that Condor was now in full production, with multiple maps and mission types in development and a "growing amount of internal and limited external playtesting" underway. Development was bolstered by the cancellation of Kestrel in May, with its developers moving onto Remedy's other projects, including Condor.[4]

On October 17, 2024, Project Condor was officially announced as FBC: Firebreak, with a reveal trailer posted.[5] An archive of promotional assets used in the release announcement was also made available at this link.
