Kevin Horowitz was a Ranger in service to the Federal Bureau of Control during the Hiss invasion.
Before the Hiss Invasion[]
Horowitz was a part of Ranger squad Charlie-seven and was assigned a mission to map Quarry grid coordinates G-29; his secondary objective was to was to discover a route from the Threshold entrance in Maintenance to the Formation, which was unsuccessful. Later on he and Rupert Wells discussed the mission with a debriefer, where they both joked about seeing a mermaid before confirming that they had seen nothing but rocks.[1]
A Matter of Time[]
Horowitz was part of a Ranger squad tasked with retrieving a runaway Altered Item, the Ocelot's Anchor from within the Clock Threshold. However due to the Hiss the item had become extremely dangerous and it cornered the squad within a safe room; once it became clear his team could not contain the item, Horowitz ordered a retreat and sealed the safe room door to prevent the Anchor's escape into the rest of the Oldest House.
The team was then attacked by Hiss and separated. Horowitz was injured, but Ranger Medic Rupert Wells managed to get him to the Hotel cord where he escaped the Threshold, while Wells went back for the others.
When Director Jesse Faden arrives in the Logistics section of the Containment Sector, she finds an injured Horowitz collapsed next to another safe room. Horowitz asks Jesse to head into the Sealed Threshold and save Wells. When Jesse and Wells return, they find that the Hiss have corrupted Horowitz due to his HRA being damaged and they are forced to kill him.
Trivia[]
- "Horology" is the study of time and the art of measuring it: Horologists are responsible for the maintenance and repair of clocks. Like Wells, Horowitz's name was likely chosen as a reference to the Clocks Threshold.
- When you first meet Horowitz, he has a head of dark buzz-cut hair, but when you fight him as a Hiss, he's bald.
